Support the Digitization Project

P1020104Your gift to The Brown Daily Herald will help fund the digitization of our archives.

Fund the digitization of any full year of The Brown Daily Herald from before 1940 with a gift of $2,500, any year between 1940-1980 with $5,000 or any year from 1980-present with $7,500.

The cost to digitize any year between 2003 and 2008 is $2,500, as some digital records already exist for these years.

Each gift funds disbinding and photographing the original newspapers to produce digital images, running optical character recognition on the text, creating digital records for each word in order to allow full-text searches, and mounting the images and data on the Web.

While the Brown Library provides valuable in-kind technical support, this project is unique compared to those at peer institutions because Herald staff have been solely responsible for raising funds. In many cases, individuals have stepped forward on their own or banded together in small groups to fund the digitization of their time at Brown or at The Herald.

The Herald is also working with the Brown Library to pursue grant opportunities for this project at the state and federal level.

All gifts to the non-profit Brown Daily Herald, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, are tax-deductible.
